New Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery

Professor Michael Escudier is the new Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Currently the Head of Oral Medicine at King’s College London Dental Institute, Professor Escudier takes office as Dean today having been elected to the role by the Faculty Board in October. He will serve a three year term to 2020.
Having originally qualified in dentistry from Guy’s Hospital in 1985 and in medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1992, Professor Escudier’s main research interest is in salivary gland and oral mucosal disease. He has previously served as the Faculty’s Senior Vice-Dean and as Chair of the Examinations Committee.
Professor Escudier succeeds Professor Nigel Hunt OBE, who steps down at the end of his term of office having led the Faculty’s high profile campaign to improve children’s oral health. Professor Hunt will become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in recognition of his contribution whilst Dean.
