The home of surgeons in England

Our building in Lincoln's Inn Fields blends our history and future, creating a home for surgeons and surgery in England. Since 1800, the building has evolved to allow the College to meet its goals. Learn more about our rich history. 

How to get here

The College is centrally located within easy walking distance of Holborn (Piccadilly and Central lines) and Temple (District and Circle lines) underground stations. It is a short taxi or underground journey from most major London train stations. We have lots of options for getting to the College, which can be found in our directions guide.

There are also two NCP car parks are situated nearby in Covent Garden and Bloomsbury Square.

Café

We have a café situated on the ground floor near the Portugal Street entrance, where you can meet colleagues or friends over coffee, or find a quiet spot to do some work. The café offers an array of drinks and food, including barista coffees and teas, cakes, snacks and sandwiches.

Our café is open from Monday to Saturday.

Hunterian Museum

The Hunterian Museum traces the history of surgery from ancient times to the present. Named after the 18th-century surgeon and anatomist John Hunter, the museum includes the largest display of human anatomy in England, featuring over 2,000 anatomical preparations from Hunter’s original collections. Visit the Hunterian Museum website to discover more.

Members and fellows' lounge

The new lounge, exclusively open to members and fellows, is the perfect place to relax and spend time with peers. Enjoy the plush sofas, coffee machine, and College reading materials which you are free to take with you. Please speak to reception for a pass to access the lounge.

Lounge opening times: 8am–6pm from Monday to Saturday.

Anatomy and Pathology Museum

The Anatomy and Pathology Museum (APM), supports medical and allied health trainees and professionals in their understanding of the human body. With over 1,500 specimens on display, the APM is ideal for self-study and learning. Book your visit now.

APM opening times: 10am–5pm from Monday to Friday.
 

Library services for researchers and the public

The College has great historical medical collections, including many rare and unique items related to anatomy, surgery and natural history. Researchers are welcome to use these collections for their studies. Learn more about our library services and book an appointment today.

Library opening times: 10am5pm from Tuesday to Thursday.

Please note that you can only visit the Archives between 10am4.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. 

Access information

Is there College parking for disabled visitors?

  • The College has a dedicated parking space for disabled visitors. Please book this space in advance by calling reception on 020 7869 6400. For more information on disabled parking please see the Westminster Council website.

What is the Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)?

  • On arrival, any visitors who would require assistance during an emergency evacuation should complete a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP). This is a bespoke 'escape plan' for individuals who may not be able to reach an ultimate place of safety unaided or within a satisfactory period in the event of any emergency. Please speak to our reception desk once you are in the building to arrange this.

Are guide dogs allowed into the College?

  • Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other assistance dogs are welcome in the College.

Do you have accessible toilets?

  • There is a unisex-accessible toilet on the ground floor of the building.
