JCST: Advertisement for QA Lead and Research Lead roles

25 Sep 2024

The Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST) is an intercollegiate advisory body which acts on behalf of the four surgical Royal Colleges of the UK and Ireland. It is committed to developing, promoting and ensuring the highest possible standards of surgical training for the benefit of patients.

The JCST is seeking to appoint two exceptional individuals to lead key areas of their quality and research work under the overall direction of the JCST Chair.

JCST QA Lead

Quality improvement, management and assurance are at the heart of the JCST.  The QA Lead will provide clinical leadership for this activity, chairing the QA Group and overseeing initiatives such as trainee and trainer surveys, quality indicators (QIs) for training posts and regional specialty quality reports, as well as ensuring the provision of high quality support for local quality management activity.

Applicants should be practising consultant surgeons with recent experience of managing and delivering surgical training, of involvement in relevant educational roles and a demonstrable understanding of and commitment to quality improvement in training.  Excellent leadership, management and interpersonal skills are also essential.

JCST Research Lead

A strong commitment to research focused on evaluating and improving surgical training is central to this aim. The Research Lead will provide clinical leadership for this activity, developing a JCST research strategy and overseeing its delivery in an agreed timeframe.

Applicants should be academic clinicians with a proven track record of clinical research activity within medicine or surgery and specifically a strong track record in research using large data sets or ‘big data’. Excellent leadership, management and interpersonal skills are also essential.

How to apply

Role descriptions, person specifications and application forms for these roles are available from Susana Cipriano, Head of JCST, at scipriano@jcst.org. The JCST Chair is also available to discuss these roles and can be contacted via the JCST secretariat.

The closing date for applications is Friday 25 October.

Interviews will be held online (MS Teams) and are scheduled to take place on:

  • Tuesday 5 November (QA Lead)
  • Thursday 7 November (Research Lead)
