Invest in your future with a research grant or joint RCS fellowship

We are pleased to invite applications for a wide range of research opportunities to support all career stages. Over the years, fellows and members have extended the frontiers of surgery through clinical research and the development of new operative techniques.
We currently have six research opportunities available:
Election of Lecturers
We are inviting applications for election to the office of Hunterian Lecturer, Arris and Gale Lecturer, and Arnott Lecturer. To be eligible, applicants must be either fellows or members of the RCS or the Faculty of Dental Surgery. Apply by 29 August 2019.
Joint RCS/BAPS Fellowship
Due to the generosity of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons, we are delighted to be able to seek applications for an RCS Research Fellowship funded for one year. Applicants may study any aspect of surgery or surgical care including basic science, diagnosis, treatment, surgical technology, logistics, audit or education related to paediatric surgery. To be eligible to apply, applicants must be members or affiliates of the RCS. Applications close 30 August 2019.
RCS Elective Prize in surgery
The RCS Elective Prize is an award of up to £500 for clinical students wishing to pursue a career in surgery and planning to undertake an elective in surgery in the developing world in 2019/2020. Applicants must be clinical students at a UK medical school and an affiliate of the RCS. Apply by 5 September 2019.
Ethicon Foundation Fund travel grants
Our Ethicon grants of up to £1,000 are available to members wishing to enhance a specialty skill or experience that may not be available in their own country. The overseas visit will normally be for a period of between 3 to 12 months. Apply by 17 September 2019.
Joint RCS Sir John Fisher Foundation Research Fellowship in the North West
Due to the generosity of the Sir John Fisher Foundation, we are delighted to be able to seek applications for an RCS Research Fellowship funded for one year into research associated with diseases and conditions of the elderly, based in the North West of England. Applicants must be members or affiliates of the RCS. Apply by 15 October 2019.
Shears Northern Research Fellowship
Through the generosity of the Shears Foundation, applicants may study any aspect of surgery or surgical care including basic science, diagnosis, treatment, surgical technology, logistics, audit or education as long as it is undertaken in the North East of England. To be eligible to apply, applicants must be members or affiliates of the RCS. Deadline for applications is 15 October 2019.
