Welcoming our new FDS Board members 2024
11 Apr 2024
Congratulations to the three candidates who were elected in our 2024 FDS Board elections. We are delighted to welcome Professor Paul Ashley, Jadbinder Seehra and Sana Luqmani to the team.
Thank you to our demitting FDS Board members, Professor Stephen Porter, Professor Helen Rodd and Jimmy Makdissi for their work to support FDS members and lead the dental profession.
You can read their election statements below and find out more about our current Board members.

My two first priorities align with themes I have pursued throughout my career. The oral health of children continues to be a national problem, and I would want to use this position to continue trying to improve this. The second priority is providing flexible training opportunities for dentists in primary care and working to make opportunities for career progression (such as specialisation) fair and equitable for all. Finally, I would seek to be an advocate for the Faculty of Dental Surgery (and the College as a whole) and work with other Board members to deliver on Faculty objectives.

I have been a member of FDS since 2004 and currently serve as the Chair of the Faculty Board for MOrth. As a FDS Board member, I would strive to support the Faculty in delivering its strategic aims. The dental profession faces multiple challenges ranging from the delivery of patient care and changes to specialty training. My main priorities are to ensure FDS is engaging with stakeholders to provide excellence in healthcare for all, develop online educational resources, and support diversity in the future workforce by widening participation in specialty training while maintaining standards. Thank you for your support.

As a younger female of colour, I am committed to increasing diversity within the FDS Board and improving inclusivity in strategy decisions. I pledge to represent all FDS members and fellows regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity or belief, especially those who currently feel their voices are not heard. As a Board member, my main three priorities will be:
- Broadening diversity on examination boards, ensuring fairness for all candidates
- Increasing CPD and networking opportunities for specialists and GDPs to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development
- Supporting grassroots oral disease prevention projects in schools
