30 Jan 2018
Nominations are now open for the 2018 Royal College of Surgeons of England Council election. Fellows and members of the RCS are invited to submit their nominations online by 5pm Friday 9 February.
Joining the RCS Council is a unique opportunity to drive the strategic direction of the College, while influencing the future of the surgical profession. It is also a chance to add a new dimension to your career journey.
What does being a member of Council involve?
Under the RCS Royal Charter, the Board of Trustees delegates matters relating to membership, professional and public policy to the Council.
The RCS Council is comprised of 24 surgeons elected by fellows and members, two dental surgery fellows elected by the Board of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and 10 representatives each selected by Surgical Specialty Associations (SSA).
Council meets six times a year. Councillors are involved in a range of committees and working groups and contribute to consultations, publications and setting professional standards. They also represent the RCS and its membership at events and are expected to play an active role in the work of the College.
