RCS England and FDS recognise nine honorary guests at diplomates ceremonies

Across six diplomates ceremonies this week, 19–21 November 2024, we are delighted to recognise nine distinguished honorary guests. These individuals are receiving honorary fellowships or awards from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Faculty of Dental Surgery. In addition to welcoming new fellows and members to our College, our diplomates ceremonies provide an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable achievements and lasting contributions of these distinguished professionals to surgery, dentistry, and medicine.

The Lady Cade Medal

Dr Peter Lax MBChB, FRCA, FFICM, FIMC

The Lady Cade Medal was founded in 1953 by Sir Stanford Cade KBE, CB, FRCS, who was a Council Member from 1949–1965, in memory of his late wife. The medal is awarded annually by the Council on the advice of the Director-General of the Royal Air Force (RAF) Medical Services. It is awarded to the medical officer who, to a degree which is considered worthy of recognition, has brought about an advance in any branch of medical science in its application to the service in the RAF, or has contributed to an improvement in any matter affecting the health or living conditions of the Air Force personnel.

Colyer Gold Medal

Professor Michael Dixon BDS, FDS RCS, MOrth, MPhil (Orth)

Founded by the Faculty of Dental Surgery in 1951, the Colyer Gold Medal commemorates the long and distinguished service of Sir Frank Colyer, especially as Honorary Curator of the Odontological Museum. It is awarded for excellence in oral healthcare, for service to the Faculty, and for contributions to the profession or wider society through actions or discoveries.

The Faculty Engagement Medal

Dr Selina Master BDS, MCCD, RCS, FDS (Hon), MBE

This Faculty Medal rewards actions that bring about change in equality, diversity and inclusion in the field of oral health.

The Charles Tomes Lecturer Medal

Dr Kate Kenny BDentSc, DClinDent, MPaed Dent, FHEA, PhD

This prestigious award is given annually in respect of contributions to oral and dental research. The recipient also gives the annual Charles Tomes Lecture.
