Dame Clare Marx to step down as Chair of the General Medical Council (GMC)

Following the news that Dame Clare Marx will be stepping down as Chair of the GMC following a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, Professor Neil Mortensen, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, said:
‘The news of Dame Clare Marx’s cancer diagnosis is devastating. As the first woman ever elected President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England she holds a very special place in the hearts and minds of all of us at the College. Our thoughts are with Clare and her family at this very difficult time.’
Dame Clare Marx served as RCS England President from 2014 to 2017.
