The RCS Surgical Research Report is produced to demonstrate the breadth of research that the RCS has successfully funded or kick-started. The report highlights the achievements of the fellowship scheme and supports the vital fundraising activities of the Research Board. Read our 2017/18 report
We offer a wide range of research fellowships, awards, grants and lectureships to support all career stages, from medical students through to consultants working in university departments and hospitals throughout the UK and abroad, enhancing the RCS' surgical research aims and ambitions. Cutlers' Surgical Prize
One of the most prestigious annual prizes for original innovation in the design or application of surgical instruments, equipment or practice to improve the health and recovery of surgical patients. The prize consists of an elegant mounted Victorian silver-gilt medal, together with an award of £5,000 to the winner or winning team. Applications close on 8 January 2018. Find out more and apply
Cutlers' Surgical Fellowship
The Worshipful Company of Cutlers' Surgical Fellowship allows fellows and members of the Royal College of Surgeons working in hospitals throughout the UK to undertake a period of time overseas to learn a surgical technique, procedure or treatment which they can then practice on their return to the UK to benefit NHS patients. The value of this fellowship is up to £7,500 to cover costs related to travel and accommodation. Applications close on 8 January 2018. Find out more and apply
Intercalated Bachelor of Science Degree in Surgery or Surgical Related Area
The Royal College of Surgeons is delighted to announce that it has set aside funding to award grants to medical students studying at UK medical schools wishing to undertake an intercalated bachelor of science degree related to surgery in the academic year commencing September 2017. You may apply if your university offers an intercalated MSc instead of an intercalated BSc. Applications close on 18 January 2018. Find out more and apply
Ronald Raven Barbers' Award
This award is intended to assist surgeons who are proposing to go abroad to learn a new surgical technique or procedure, of which they can make use of on their return to the UK to benefit their patients. Particular weight is given to the excellence of the applicant, the innovative qualities of the work to be done and the ultimate benefit of the work to patient care in the UK. Two awards up to the value of £2,500 each will be made towards the cost of the project. Applications close on 8 January 2018. Find out more and apply
Joint RCS & McKinsey Healthcare Management Fellowship
An exciting opportunity is available to be part of the McKinsey and Company's Healthcare practice for a year while contributing to the RCS's management and leadership agenda.
