  • Tooth decay in 5-year-olds now increasing in some parts of England

    15 May 2018 Survey figures published today by Public Health England (PHE) show the state of oral health of 5-year-olds in the North West, Yorkshire and The Humber and the West Midlands has worsened since the last survey in 2014-2015, bucking a previous improving trend. Overall, in 2016-2017, 23.3% of 5-year-olds in England experienced tooth decay, improving from 24.7% in 2014-2015.
  • RCS: Last minute cancelled operations hits highest number since 1994

    10 May 2018 The extreme pressures in accident and emergency departments during March have had a knock-on effect on spiralling waiting times for planned surgery, the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) has warned. The RCS is also concerned that over 25,000 operations were cancelled at the last minute, despite NHS England guiding hospitals to cancel operations in advance during January.

The talented duo walked away with the title of 'Best Core Surgical Trainees in the UK' - along with a prize of £1,500 to share, after taking part in the Royal College of Surgeons’ competition.

    26 Apr 2018 The RCS has responded to research published in The BMJ today which has found patients undergoing emergency surgery who are treated by older surgeons (aged 60 or over) have slightly lower death rates in the first few weeks after their operation than patients treated by younger surgeons (aged less than 40) within the same hospital.

    12 Apr 2018 Today’s NHS performance data shows another significant decline in the percentage of patients seen within 4 hours of attendance at A&E. Performance for A&E usually improves in March as the NHS comes out of the winter. However, hospitals have struggled this year with continued cold weather, including heavy snow, and high rates of flu and norovirus.
