The RCS leadership has been concerned for some time by reports that BAME surgeons, trainees and other NHS staff may be disproportionately at risk from COVID. The RCS supports NHS England’s precautionary approach of risk-assessing staff at potentially greater risk, and making arrangements accordingly.

Shortages of PPE equipment and a lack of access to testing are the two main concerns of dental surgeons, according to a survey of almost 200 dental surgeons conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons England (RCS). Nearly two-thirds of dental surgeons surveyed had experienced shortages of PPE equipment in the last 30 days. More than 40% of them say they do not have an adequate supply of protective kit.

A third of surgeons and trainees surveyed across the UK by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) say they do not believe they have an adequate supply of PPE in their Trust, enabling them to do their jobs safely. More than half (57%) say there have been shortages in the past 30 days.
