Ronald Raven Barbers’ Award
To assist surgeons going abroad to learn a new surgical technique or procedure, which they can use on their return to the UK to benefit their patients. Subject to satisfactory applicants, two awards of up to £2,500 each will be made. You must be affiliated with this College, UK resident and not have already received a Ronald Raven Award.

Cutlers’ Surgical Prize
A prestigious annual prize for original innovation in the design or application of surgical instruments, equipment or practice to improve the health and recovery of surgical patients. It consists of an elegant mounted Victorian silver-gilt medal, together with an award of £5,000 to the winner or winning team.

Cutlers’ Research Fellowship
For surgeons who plan to undertake a period of time overseas to learn a surgical technique, procedure, or treatment which they can then practice on their return to the UK to benefit NHS patients. The value of this award is up to £10,000. You must be a fellow or member of this College working in hospitals throughout the UK.

Pump priming grants
The College is offering a limited number of awards of up to £10,000 to newly appointed consultants (appointed since 2019), senior lecturers, SAS doctors and post-doctoral trainees in surgery who are working at hospitals and universities within the UK. The grants aim to assist those in the early stages of their independent research careers. Applicants are not eligible if they have already received a Pump Priming grant from this College.

Robotics pump priming grants
In 2023, the Royal College of Surgeons of England is offering a one-off programme of awards, funded by the Saven Research and Development Programme, to consultants (appointed since 2017), senior lecturers, SAS doctors and post-doctoral trainees in surgery who are working at hospitals and universities within the UK. The aim of the awards is to give assistance to such surgeons undertaking research into robotic-assisted surgery, usually in the early stages of their independent research careers.

Intercalated Bachelor of Science Degree in Surgery or Surgical Related Area
The College is delighted to announce funding to award grants to medical students studying at UK medical schools wishing to undertake an Intercalated Bachelor of Science degree related to surgery in the academic year beginning September 2024. To be eligible you must be a paid affiliate of this College.
