I was elected to the FDS Board of Faculty in 2017 and it has been an honour to serve as a member over the last five-years. I now seek re-election and the opportunity to continue supporting the Faculty in delivering its key strategic aims. I believe that I am well-placed to do this, having significant experience as a clinical academic, hospital consultant and NHS primary-care orthodontist. As a board member, I have represented the Faculty on multiple internal and external committees, am current Chair of FDS Examinations and between 2021- 22, served as junior and then senior vice-dean of the FDS.

I wish to continue to serve as a FDS Board Member having represented Fellows and Members during challenging times: the redevelopment of the College, the pandemic and ongoing NHS pressures. I want as an elected SAS Practitioner to continue to be elected the FDS Board Member with voting rights on RCS Council. Ensure the Faculty continues to represent the membership in respect to diversity, education, sustainability, ensuring patient safety and supporting excellent patient care. Supporting the Dean as Vice Dean and liaise with the College’s Events team in respect to events including those for education, award ceremonies and social events.

I am a clinical academic in paediatric dentistry working tirelessly to improve children’s oral health through my clinical work, research, and education. I have demonstrated leadership during my presidency of BSPD by highlighting the importance of inequalities and need for system approach to address children’s oral health. I am currently a member of RCS England emerging leader’s mentorship programme and chair of MPAEDDENT board. My main priorities will be to integrate oral health into general health strategies, advocate for equal and flexible specialist training while maintaining standards. I will also support the board members to further the faculty research agenda.
I have been the SAS Representative on FDS Board since 2018. I am currently FDS SAS Education Committee Chair, member of RCS Global Oral Health Committee and a co-opted member of RCS SAS Forum, AoMRC SAS Committee and BDA Central Committee of Hospital Dental Services. I have been a Specialty Doctor in OMFS and a part-time dentist with interest in Oral Surgery and Implantology for 18 years. If elected, I will continue to support the important advisory role of FDS in dentistry and push for a resourceful, accessible, modern, innovative and fair educational agenda for all dentists, locally and globally.

As an FDS board member I would endeavour to support the ongoing development of postgraduate dental education, qualifications and standards. I would like to contribute to the opportunities afforded to the FDS at a political and professional level for the shared benefit of all. My priorities would be to see amendment of the eligibility criteria for speciality membership examinations. Prior knowledge and experience are not solely limited to speciality training thus speciality membership qualifications should be more accessible. Additionally, I would like to see more collective and speciality specific CPD activity for all prospective and established members and fellows.
The profession is experiencing increasing challenges across all aspects of dentistry. I firmly believe the College is fundamental to continual advancement of dentistry and aim to champion, contribute, and drive this initiative. To do this our specialist area of practice needs specialist knowledge. If elected I wish to promote:
- Patient care – Establishing formal links with other medical specialties for guidance to treat complex patients via multidisciplinary care
- Education – Offering cutting-edge CPD from global experts in your specialty via an online forum
- Diversity – Reflecting our profession and workforce representing a voice for all members
Thank you for your support.
