Dr Charlotte Eckhardt officially took office on 16 June, beginning her three-year term as Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at The Royal College of Surgeons of England. Thank you to our outgoing Dean, Mr Matthew Garrett, for his leadership and commitment to the Faculty.

The Faculty of Dental Surgery at The Royal College of Surgeons of England is delighted to announce that Dr Charlotte Eckhardt has been elected as the next Dean. Dr Eckhardt will take office in June 2023 when the Faculty’s current Dean, Mr Matthew Garrett, completes his three year term.

Dr Eckhardt is a highly experienced consultant orthodontist and aesthetic practitioner. Her particular orthodontic interest is in the management of facial deformity, working with maxillofacial and plastic surgeons, and is the lead orthodontist for cleft lip and palate in Wales. She also has interest in postgraduate training and assessment and was appointed as an MOrth examiner in 2008. Following this, she was elected as the Chair of the Panel of MOrth examiners and then the Chair of the Board of MOrth examiners for RCS England and RCPS Glasgow. She is currently the Senior Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery.

Dr Charlotte Eckhardt said, ‘I am honoured to have been elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery by our Board. I recognise this is an incredibly difficult time for dentistry and will do my best to serve all our members over the next three years.’

‘The Faculty plays a vital role in education, training and assessment of dentists, dental specialists and orthodontic therapists. I look forward to ensuring we have a workforce that is able to meet today’s challenges as well as advancing the profession.’
