A statement on RCS England Fellow, Mr Omer Karim
25 Jun 2021
Mr Tim Mitchell, Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England said:
“We are deeply concerned by the case of RCS England Fellow, consultant urological surgeon, Mr Omer Karim. The Employment Tribunal ruling this week that he was discriminated against by the GMC on the grounds of his race is deeply troubling. There is no place for racism in our health service. Whether bias is conscious or unconscious, we all have a responsibility to stamp out discrimination. While further developments may yet happen in the case of Mr Karim, we extend our sympathy and support both to him and to all those affected by this case.”
