RCS England response to NAO report "NHS Financial Management and Sustainability"
24 Jul 2024
Responding to a report on NHS financial management and sustainability published by the National Audit Office (NAO) today, Mr Tim Mitchell, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England), said:
"The NAO report emphasises the tough choices the new government will need to make on funding the NHS. There is a critical mismatch between service demand and likely funding. Without significant investment in infrastructure and surgical capacity, recovery of waiting times will remain an uphill battle."
“It is why we’re calling for the new government to commit to a £6.4 billion annual capital funding increase to upgrade existing NHS estates and build surgical capacity so that we can start to help the hundreds of thousands of patients who have been on waiting lists for far too long.”
