Honorary Fellowship for Royal marks Faculty of Dental Surgery’s 70th Anniversary

03 Mar 2017

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal is to receive an Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons in recognition of her strong commitment to children’s health. She receives the Honorary Fellowship on the occasion of the Faculty’s 70th anniversary.

The Princess Royal’s work as President of Save the Children has given her a unique opportunity to understand the problems of developing nations and to help with education across the globe. She has also demonstrated her concern for children’s health through her Patronage of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health here in the UK.

As a professional body committed to enabling dentists and dental specialist to provide patients with the highest possible standards of practice and care the Faculty shares The Princess Royal’s concern for children’s health. In 2015 the Faculty published a report highlighting the significant problem of child tooth decay in UK and since then it has been working with Public Health England to coordinate a national strategy to improve children’s oral health.

Professor Nigel Hunt, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons said:

“The Princess Royal has been a great advocate for children’s health both in the UK and overseas and we are delighted she has accepted our invitation to become an Honorary Fellow of the Faculty.”
