RCS and FDS sign letter to PM Boris Johnson warning of the impact a no-deal Brexit could have on patients
22 Aug 2019
Health leaders, including Professor Derek Alderson, President of the Royal College of Surgeons, and Professor Michael Escudier, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, have written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson to warn of the impact a no-deal Brexit could have on NHS patients. The letter, co-ordinated by the Royal College of Physicians, has been signed by the heads of 17 royal colleges and health charities across the UK. It calls for the Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock to be put on the EU exit strategy committee chaired by Michael Gove, who is in charge of no-deal planning. The letter warns that without sufficient planning, even the smallest of problems could have huge consequences on the lives of millions of people reliant on the NHS. The letter has received wide media coverage, including on BBC News and Sky News.
