Comment on commitments for additional funding for the NHS
01 Dec 2014
Commenting on commitments for additional funding for the NHS, RCS President Clare Marx said:
‘NHS England’s five-year forward view is an important blueprint for the change that is needed in the NHS. It makes the case for designing services around improving patient safety, outcomes and experience. In surgery it is likely that this will require a greater concentration of specialised surgery, and a need to develop and maintain efficient networks of care for local hospitals with more integrated pathways of care. These developments will require pilots and transitional funding.
‘We welcome any investment in the NHS to help to realise this ambition. There is growing need as the population ages and technology and treatment options increase. We hope politicians from all parties will have a reasoned debate in the run up to the general election about what is needed to improve and strengthen patient care in the NHS.’
