After attending this course, you will be able to:
- recognise the role and professional responsibility of the trainer in surgical or dental education;

- describe the purpose and effective use of the assessment;
- use a structured four-stage model to teach a psychomotor skill;
- apply teaching in face-to-face and virtual environments.
Suitability
This course is suitable for all career grades, speciality and specialist surgeons (SAS), locally employed doctors (LED), dental surgeons and the extended surgical and allied health team. It has been designed for anyone involved in the delivery of surgical and dental training, either locally or as a member of faculty.
Format
Module one: online learning Begin with six interactive online sessions, which provide a foundation in clinical education techniques and principles. This is estimated to take approximately four hours.
1-2-1 virtual session Approximately one to two weeks before the face-to-face day, you will have a 30-minute virtual meeting with a faculty member. This session will help you prepare for a practice training session and address any individual needs. You will be contacted by email to arrange a date for this session.
Module two: face-to-face training day Spend a full day in hands-on, interactive sessions where you will practice delivering clinical education and receive feedback. The in-person component is designed to give you real-world experience in a supportive environment.
Module three: online learning Following the face-to-face day, continue your development with follow-up online learning sessions. These will help consolidate your learning and ensure you are prepared for ongoing teaching roles. This is estimated to take approximately two hours.

Please note that registration for this course closes four weeks before the start of the face-to-face day. This is to ensure you have time to complete the online learning sessions before the start of the face-to-face day and take part in the 1-2-1 session with faculty.
