First 4 membership package
The Royal College of Surgeons of England offers a membership package for UK trainees in their first four years post-MRCS, in response to your concerns about the financial burden of training and the support you need from us.
First 4 your pocket: the discount
Those members who complete their MRCS Part B with us will benefit from a reduced membership rate to reflect the costs of training in the early years post-MRCS. The fees will be as follows and can be paid by monthly Direct Debit:
Year post-MRCS | Discount | Discounted fee | Saving |
Year 1 | 50% | £158 | £158 |
Year 2 | 35% | £205 | £111 |
Year 3 | 20% | £253 | £63 |
Year 4 | 0% | NA | NA |
RCS England affiliate members save an additional £180 by not paying the MRCS joining fee, bringing the total savings over four years to £512.
Attending your diplomates’ ceremony once you have passed your exam is also free, giving you a chance to celebrate your fantastic achievements with friends and family.
First 4 your career development: the non-financial benefits
You will also be able to take advantage of further membership benefits tailored to support you during this important time in your training. These will include a mixture of online resources, webinars and events, all developed using trainee feedback.
Eligibility
The reduced membership rate mentioned above for the first years post-MRCS are now available to everyone—affiliate membership is no longer required to qualify. You will still be required to take the MRCS Part B with RCS England on or after 1 October 2024.
