New to the Library, part 1: ejournals and ebooks

The Library has recently expanded its ejournal and ebook holdings. Here’s a rundown of specific information on each resource, with login instructions, to get you started on using these high impact factor journals and popular books straight away.
The new resources comprise four ejournals (Dental Update, Neurosurgery, The Journal of Urology and Clinical Orthopaedics & Related Research) and two collections of ebooks (Health Library: Orthopaedic Surgery and Health Library: Surgery).
Ejournals
Dental Update
Dental Update publishes postgraduate articles covering new and established clinical treatment. All articles are peer-reviewed, offering subscribers an unbiased and professional platform for continuing professional development and education in the UK.
Dental Update is read by general and specialist practitioners, hospital dentists, and an increasing number of dental students and hygienists. The principal aim of the journal is to offer the general dental practitioner (and specialists in other sub-disciplines of dentistry) a source of continuing education and forum for discussion.
The RCS England subscription to Dental Update is provided via MAG Online Library and to access it you will need to log in to the RCS England website, then visit Surgical Library, select the eJournals tab and search for ‘title:Dental Update’. (Illustrated guide to accessing MAG Online Library.)
Neurosurgery
Neurosurgery, the official journal of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, publishes top research on clinical and experimental neurosurgery covering the very latest developments in science, technology, and medicine. The journal attracts contributions from the most respected authorities in the field. It includes a wealth of information applicable to researchers and practicing neurosurgeons. This journal is indispensable as the most comprehensive source in neurosurgery.
It features: original, peer-reviewed articles; human clinical studies; systematic reviews and meta-analyses; promising new research; international perspectives on neurosurgical practice.
This journal has an impressive profile of influence, ranking 26 out of 211 in the field of Surgery, and 52 out of 212 in Clinical Neurology. The Impact Factor for this journal stands at 5.315.
The RCS England subscription to Neurosurgery is provided via Journals@Ovid and is also available in Surgical Library.
Make sure you are logged into the RCS England website before logging in. At Ovid, select 'OpenAthens | Institutional' below the main login form, then click on 'Royal College of Surgeons of England' in the institution list; you can type into the filter field to narrow the list displayed (ignore the '(SP)' entry). The Journal of Urology
The Journal of Urologyis the official journal of the AUA and the most widely read and highly cited journal in the field, providing extensive coverage on the clinically relevant content needed to stay at the forefront of the dynamic field of urology. This journal presents investigative studies on critical areas of research and practice, survey articles with short condensations of the best and most important urology literature worldwide and practice-oriented reports on significant clinical observations. The Journal of Urology recently celebrated increasing its 2022 Journal Impact Factor to 7.60, which is the highest it has ever been.
Feedback from our Library Evidence Support team rates both Neurosurgery and The Journal of Urology highly. The team checks them regularly to compile the latest evidence for the bimonthly surgical specialty Updates in their respective fields. They have become a valuable part of the list of high-impact, peer-reviewed journals proving useful regularly for key studies which can then be shared with members and fellows across the world.

Clinical Orthopaedics & Related Research
Devoted to disseminating new and important orthopaedic knowledge, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research is a leading peer-reviewed orthopaedic journal and a publication of The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons. CORR brings readers the latest clinical and basic research and informed opinions that shape today's orthopaedic practice, thereby providing an opportunity to practice evidence-based medicine. With contributions from leading clinicians and researchers around the world, this journal aims to provide an international perspective, advancing knowledge of the musculoskeletal system.
CORR publishes content of value to both generalists and specialists on all aspects of musculoskeletal research, diagnoses, and treatment. The impact factor of this journal is 4.755.

Ebooks
Both of these collections are provided by the LWW Health Library. You can access these by logging into the College website, then following the links provided below. At the Health Library site, click on ‘Sign In’ at the top right of the page, then and is also available in Surgical Library below the login form. Select ‘OpenAthens Federation’ from the Federation list, then ‘Royal College of Surgeons of England’ from the institution list (you can use the text box to narrow the list displayed), before clicking ‘Select’. Health Library: Orthopaedic Surgery
Health Library: Orthopaedic Surgery is organised into two tabs, entitled ‘Texts’ and ‘Video’.
There are 51 volumes available under the ‘texts’ tab, in a variety of relevant subjects, including exposures, fractures, oncology, paediatrics and general orthopaedic surgery, in this collection. Popular titles are:

A series of videos is also available which covers demonstrations of patient examination techniques, imaging showing various conditions, gait patterns of patients, adult procedures etc. These are displayed with links to recommended textbooks beside them e.g. for ‘Anterior Approach to the Ankle’ the associated text is: Surgical Exposures in Orthopaedics: The Anatomic Approach, 5e.
Health Library: Surgery
Health Library: Surgery is the same kind of resource set as the Orthopaedic Surgery collection, but with a surgery focus. Again, the collection is organised into tabs: ‘texts’, ‘video’ and ‘cases’.
In the ‘texts’ tab, popular volumes are at the top of the page. Some examples are:

All in all, there is a wide range of interesting material to which we are expanding access in 2022, representing some of the most respected sources of journal and book information in their specialty areas. The ebooks offer the chance to link to valuable text resources and in the case of the surgery collection, cases too.
