Emerging oral health research leaders: Unlocking potential and maximising opportunities

This free research symposium is targeted at all members of the dental team who have an interest in embarking on a research career or those at the early stages of their career seeking to learn from the personal experience of established research leaders.

This event provides a unique opportunity for attendees to listen and network with successful researchers, established experts, and those currently embarking on their research journey. Through engaging discussions and workshops, participants will acquire valuable skills and insights that will enhance their own developmental journey as emerging leaders.

Audience

  • All members of the dental team in primary care who are interested in oral health related research;
  • Dental core trainees and specialist registrars who are considering to be involved in research;
  • Early career clinical academics;
  • Clinicians including NHS consultants and SAS doctors who have interest and or involved in oral health research. 

Learning Outcomes

Educational Objectives

At the end of this symposium, participants will:

  • Understand the role of research and understanding evidence in clinical practice and advocating for patients;
  • Understand the role of research in developing health policy;
  • Have an insight into academic career opportunities and available support;
  • Understand the value of PPIE and how to engage patients and the public throughout the research process;
  • Understand the challenges to undertake clinical research in primary care setting;
  • Gain knowledge into ethical approval process and be able to differentiate between IRAS and University ethical approval process;
  • Develop practical skills to identify appropriate funding opportunities;
  • Understand the benefits of mentoring and coaching in career development. 

Format

The symposium will be delivered via a series of lectures and interactive workshops that participants will work through during the afternoon.

This course will be held face-to-face in the Lumley Library at The Royal College of Surgeons of England, 38-43 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London WC2A 3PE.
