Core CPD Course
Dental professionals practicing in the UK have a duty to keep their skills and knowledge up to date. The Core CPD Course aims to provide those working in primary and secondary care, in the NHS and in private and independent practice with up to date information across all core subjects as set out by the General Dental Council (GDC).
This course will cover medical emergencies, disinfection and decontamination including HTM 01-05, radiography and radiation protection, the latest in legal and ethical issues, complaints handling, early detection of oral cancer and safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Keeping up with your professional development requirements is key to delivering good quality care to patients and the public. Completion of this course can be used as evidence towards meeting your CPD requirements with the GDC.

Suitability
This course is suitable for the whole dental team including:
- General Dental Practitioners (GDPs);
- Dental Specialists;
- Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) including dental nurses, clinical dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental technicians, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists.
Learning Outcomes
Educational Aims & Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will have a clear understanding of:

- Best practice in establishing acceptable disinfection and decontamination protocols
- Establishing safe radiography and radiation protection protocols

Format
The course will be delivered via a series of lectures given by highly experienced academics in their specialist fields. There will be opportunities for participants to ask questions and have discussions throughout the day.
The course will be held face-to-face at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
CPD for dental professionals is defined by the GDC as lectures, seminars, courses, individual study and other activities that advance your professional development as a dentist or dental care professional and is relevant to your practice or intended practice.
Dentists are required to carry out at least 250 hours of CPD every five years and Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) are required to carry out at least 150 hours of CPD every five years. More information about CPD requirements can be found here
