Apply to become a Faculty Assessor
Applications are invited for consultants to represent the Faculty at Advisory Appointment Committees (AAC).
The Faculty of Dental Surgery sets standards for the clinical and professional practice of dental surgery and oversees the regulation of the general professional training of surgeons. It is responsible for the formulation and delivery of policy relating to standards, education, training and examinations throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Faculty has, as a primary responsibility, the upholding of the highest standards of practice of surgery in all dental specialties. In order to fulfil this responsibility the board places great reliance on consultant surgeons nominated to sit on AACs.
The faculty assessor is the only statutory external influence on the AACs. Along with the other members of the AAC, the assessor must ensure that the best candidate for the job is appointed and that the process is fair and open within current legislation, and current employment practice. Assessors should make sure only candidates with the appropriate qualifications are appointed.
Faculty assessor requirements:
- Must be an established consultant or honorary consultant in the NHS
- Must have been in active practice for a minimum of five years
- Must be a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of The Royal College of Surgeons of England
- All assessors must have taken or be willing to undertake equal opportunity and diversity training
We are looking to recruit faculty assessors for the following four specialties:
- Orthodontics
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Paediatric dentistry
- Restorative dentistry
