Physician Associate

Physician AssociateA physician associate is a healthcare professional who supports diagnosis and management of patients. A small number work as members of surgical teams under consultant supervision providing clinical support which enables surgical trainees to access training opportunities. Wider members of the surgical care team, including physician associates, can become surgical team members of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Find out more about surgical team membership.

Please note that as of early 2024, the joint surgical colleges and surgical specialty associations are currently reviewing the scope of practice for physician associates. Read about our recent Council discussion on physician associates.
